Some Keys to a Successful Practice
First start your practice with active stretching not passive- Passive stretches are your typical toe touches and reach the sky or sit on the ground and bend over your legs- These are not bad however they do not wake up the body. Active stretches are skips and hops, walking slowly taking very large steps, or with each step as the leg is bent push it all the way out to the side- a fun way to do this and to get the kids involved over the season is to have a follow the leader drill all around the field- doing each stretch for thirty seconds to a full minute- work the muscles in a new and different way. End your stretching with a run around the field and then go into your practice.
Please do not just scrimmage for an entire practice- at least at the beginning.
Some ideas of drills you can use for a variety of skill building are listed under 'Practice Drills' accessed from the Home menu.
